Echoes Of The Past Spend A Busy Week At Kosciusko County Fair
July 18, 2024 at 6:13 p.m.
The weather was a bit cantankerous but that did not stop the visitors from coming to the Antique Village, known as the Echoes area, at the fairgrounds.
Patrons of the village were treated to tractor-churned ice cream each day. Flavors of lemon, cookies and cream, butterscotch and pistachio were big hits, but the traditional vanilla always stood out as a favorite, according to a release from Echoes of the Past. Cast iron cooking also happened in the village at the big yellow tent. Chili was cooked over an open fire on Wednesday and ham and beans were done on Thursday.
There was no shortage of kids activities to keep the little ones busy. When they were not eating ice cream, they could be found riding the barrel train, playing in the corn pit, spinning in the tubes or driving a tractor.
The sawmill demonstration proved to be an interesting learning experience for many, the release states. Club members used the saw to cut up walnut, cherry and oak logs. The task of manually cutting an 8-foot log is not an easy task, one that takes up to four men to hold and straighten, tighten in place, pull off the conveyor and clean up the scrap.
The week capped off with the Echoes of the Past participating in the livestock auction. The club was able to help out 20 4-H participants. Donations received throughout the year through making ice cream, ropemaking, and tractor diving allow Echoes of the Past to participate in the livestock auction.
The club will be hosting a free community event Aug. 2 and 3 in Claypool. The SummerFest Tractor Show and Pull is located at 6876 S. County Farm Road. Visit their website at www.theechoesofthepast.com or their Facebook page for more information.
