Cindy L. Bucher

July 18, 2024 at 6:18 p.m.

Cindy L. Bucher (nee. Gagnon), born Dec. 7, 1951, to Rosewell and Grace Gagnon, went to meet her Savior in all His Glory on the morning of July 16, 2024. Cindy was surrounded with worship, prayer and the promises of Scripture and is now home where her true citizenship belongs.
Cindy grew up in a farming family, filling her young days with common farm chores, playing outside with friends and cousins, and reading. Cindy graduated from Akron High School in 1970. Following graduation, she attended Manchester College for one year before marrying Steven F. Bucher on April 14, 1972. Their wedding song, “We’ve Only Just Begun,” has held true, seeing a thriving, loving and committed marriage for 52 years.
Cindy grew up attending Silver Creek Church of God, which is where she met and fell in love with her future husband. Cindy realized her need for a Savior at an early age and began living a life devoted to Jesus. Throughout her youth, Cindy attended Bear Lake Church Camp, which would later become an area of ministry in which she was able to share the love of God with kids in attendance, alongside her husband, as camp directors.
Cindy and Steve waited patiently and faithfully for God to answer their prayers for children, and were blessed on Feb. 14, 1984, with the birth of their son Nathan Ross. Two years later, God showed His faithfulness again, with the birth of their daughter, Kimberly Ann. The family of four was the focus of Cindy’s attention, supporting her husband and lovingly raising Nathan and Kimberly.
Cindy began working as the kids began school, working as a Title One staff member at Laketon Elementary. While working for the school district, she was hired on as the high school assistant gymnastics coach. While coaching at the high school level, Cindy took on a different role in the school, becoming the high school media center assistant. Once her kids graduated school, Cindy was offered the position of church secretary at Manchester First Brethren Church.
Her later years were filled with making new memories with her husband, kids and eventually grandchildren; continuing to support her kids by faithfully praying and cheering them on, whether in Minnesota, Ohio or even Haiti.
These last years were marked with a hard road due to a debilitating illness that changed many life experiences, but nevertheless, Cindy remained faithful to her Lord, Christ Jesus. Through it all, God has been faithful with many gifts and many blessings.
Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, Rosewell and Grace Gagnon; her sister, Judy Blue (Barry); and many aunts and uncles. Cindy is survived by her husband, Steve Bucher; her son, Nathan Bucher (Kristi); daughter, Kimberly Wickersham (John); grandchildren: Hayley Wickersham, Hannah Wickersham, Grady Wickersham, Ruby Bucher and Luke Bucher.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20 at Silver Creek Church of God, 15252 E. CR 100S, Silver Lake, with Pastor Kurt Stout officiating. A light meal will follow. The interment will take place at a later date in the Silver Creek Cemetery, Silver Lake. Memorial visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to the time of the service at the church on Saturday, July 20.
The arrangements have been entrusted to Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Jesus in Haiti Ministries or Stillwater Hospice. You might also consider a donation to your local library.
