Warsaw Community Schools (WCS) invites parents and community members for the opening of the "Next Wave: Surf the Saw" art exhibition, featuring several high school students.
The opening reception will be Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Atelier Gallery, 104 E. Center St., Warsaw, which will feature live music, a Kona Ice truck, an exhibition merchandise shop and the opportunity to meet the students, according to a news release from WCS.
From July 12 to Aug. 31 (Wednesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.), Atelier Gallery will transform into a surf shack showcasing surf-related art created by our student artists. The exhibition includes handcrafted and painted stand-up paddleboards, longboards, wakeboards and skate decks, as well as film, sculpture, painting and installation art.
This summer show is a collaboration between Atelier Director Sea Grandon and WCHS artist and Warsaw Area Career Center instructor Andrea Miller. Most of the artwork comes from the Warsaw Community High School Gone Boarding program, part of the Design Graphics Pathway in the Engineering & Technology Department of the WACC. Students in this program design and construct various boards, including surfboards, stand-up paddleboards, wakeboards and skateboards, gaining hands-on experience in design, prototyping and building.
Students with projects in the showcase are Ali Barkey, Jett Woods, Evan Owens, Rex Arnold, Aniyah Bond, Cass Lopez, “Kai” Leighton Hackworth, Logan Maier, Eibyl Long, Layla Skeans, Lynsie Hatfield, Cooper Hummich, Ethan Owens, Brianna Bencze, Kendrea Williams, Makayla Bradford, April Rodriguez, Jose Lopez, Angela Hoover, Michael Manes, Stefanie Early and Roxanna Collins.
Community sponsors include the Bailey R. Moore Foundation, The Lake House, Noa Noa Wood Grill & Sushi Bar, Orthoworx, Plug and Play Indiana, Pro Wake Watersports, The Watershed Foundation and the Warsaw Public Arts Commission.
