Manchester Council Approves Bid For Sewer Work

NORTH MANCHESTER – At Wednesday night's meeting, the Manchester Town Council approved a $142,517 bid from Jones and Henry for sewer work ahead of the reconstruction of the South Market Street bridge.
Costs to the town for moving the sewer main will be reimbursed by the county, which is in charge of the bridge project.
Council opened bids for water softening salt but is taking the bids under advisement ahead of the August meeting. The salt bids were as follows: Midwest Salt at $107 per ton, Morton Salt at $99.70 per ton and Compass Minerals at $106 per ton.
Two service contracts were approved: Kleinpeter Consulting for $2,200 and New Focus HR for $5,000. Kleinpeter will help the town apply for more Office of Community and Rural Affairs funding; New Focus will help the town update their staff handbook including personnel policies.
In other business:
• Trash and recycling rate increases consistent with this year's Republic Services bid were approved on second reading.
• Police Chief Nate Birch reported 439 calls for service, 98 traffic stops and 10 traffic accidents last month.
• There was a town docket of $789,317.28 and a utilities docket of $215,455.50.
The council will next meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 7.
