Student’s Job Title: Rehab Intern
What are your job responsibilities: I help set up equipment for the patients to use, and help clean equipment when done. I also interact with the patients and try to encourage them.
How has this position been helpful to you? This position has been helpful to me because I’ve received real on-the-job experience and have been able to learn from real physical therapists. It has also helped me determine that this is something I would want to do for the rest of my life.
What have you learned? I have learned several things about how certain muscles and other parts of the body work and see how to treat potential ailments to these muscles. I have also learned the importance of patient service and how to treat patients the right way.
How is this job preparing you for the future? This job is showing me what being a physical therapist is like and what they would do on a daily basis.
What do you like about this job? I like being able to interact with the patients and having the ability to encourage them.
What Career Center classes have you taken in your pathway? Principles of Biomedical Science and Human Body Systems, Medical Intervention and Biomedical Innovation
Your Career and College Plans: I plan to pursue a career in physical therapy. I will get a four-year bachelor degree in biology or chemistry and then go to graduate school for physical therapy.

What duties does this student perform? Patient treatment and evaluation observations; cleaning of equipment; some assistance during testing procedures; equipment set up and/or retrieval
How is this job preparing this student for the future? Andrew is learning about different medical diagnoses, patient populations and physical and occupational therapy evaluation and assessments. He is also learning about professionalism and communication skills in an office setting and with patients.
What do you think of the WACC Work-Based Learning program? This program is an excellent way to introduce students to professions before making decisions on schooling.
Why were you willing to partner with the WACC in this program? It is enjoyable to help facilitate an educational experience for young adults who are eager to learn more about physical therapy and its role in the medical system.
