WINONA LAKE, IND. — Grace College inducted 23 juniors and seniors into the Alpha Chi Honor Society on Saturday.
These students have earned the top 10% of GPAs across all disciplines at Grace. Every year Alpha Chi inducts nearly 11,000 students from across the country, according to a news release from Grace College.
Alpha Chi is a national honor society whose purpose is to promote academic excellence among college and university students of all disciplines, to encourage a spirit of service and leadership and to nurture the elements of character that make scholarship effective for good. Founded in 1922 and affiliated since 1955 with the Association of College Honor Societies, Alpha Chi is the second oldest and second largest general honor society in the United States.
“As faculty, we look forward to this event every year, as these are students who have really distinguished themselves in academics throughout their time at Grace,” said Dr. Lauren Rich, Alpha Chi faculty sponsor and chair of the Department of Humanities. “Membership in Alpha Chi is an honor signifying students’ hard work, dedication to learning and strong character.”
After inductees were introduced by a faculty member from their major and presented with a certificate and pin, Grace College Vice President of Financial Affairs and CFO Doug Baumgardner delivered a keynote address. A 2003 Grace graduate, Baumgardner was inducted into the Alpha Chi Honor Society when he attended Grace.
Following the address, Joshua Fisher, a current Grace student studying environmental science and Alpha Chi member, gave the benediction. Fisher received a 2023 Alfred H. Nolle Scholarship for his research on the environmental impact of electric vehicles, one of only eight recipients nationwide.
