Silver Lake To Purchase Festival Insurance

SILVER LAKE – At Wednesday night's meeting, the Silver Lake Town Council agreed to purchase five years of liability insurance for Silver Lake Days to help the festival committee with costs.
The committee, led by local resident Russ Bauer, who was present at the meeting, is hopeful to bring back Silver Lake Days for June 7 and 8 this year. These dates are tentative, as the committee is scheduling around other festivals in the region.
Bauer said they hope to bring back a dunk tank, a Tiny Tots children's motorcycle event, a band, a parade and more for this year's festival.
In old business, the council approved a cross connection ordinance, outlining specifications for backflow prevention when private residences are hooking up to the public systems.
The council accepted a $6,315 quote from Hohman Excavating for repairs on Sycamore Street to prevent cracking from repeated freezing and thawing when the road floods.
Town Marshal Jason McGlennen is working with the Michiana Area Council of Governments (MACOG) to acquire two electric vehicles, a Chevrolet Blazer and a Ford F-150, through a grant program. The F-150 Lightning truck would be used by the street department.
In other business:
• The fire department had 91 runs in 2023.
• There was a claims docket of $152,328.78.
• The clerk's office will be closed Jan. 16–18 for training.
The council will next meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 14.
