The Warsaw Rotary Club held its 58th Annual Rotary Salvation Army Day on Dec. 21 with a total of $56,000 collected that day.
The fundraiser was left open until Dec. 31, with the final tally of $72,299.08 collected, according to a news release from The Salvation Army.
The event was formed in 1965 by N. Bruce Howe Jr., originally called “Brice’s Day” to honor longtime member and Salvation Army Officer, Brigadier Brice Phillipson for his ministry to others. John R. Hall has served many years as co-chairman and then chairman after Howe’s death in 2015.
The first event raised a little under $1,000, which would have around $9,550 in purchasing power today. The 2023 total is a record amount for the Warsaw Rotary Club, according to the release.
Alan Alderfer now serves as chairman of the event and thanked Rotarians and the community for their support.
