Two months after Lake City Aviators told the Warsaw Board of Aviation Commissioners (BOAC) about their plans to offer a ground school at the airport, classes are taking off.
Warsaw Municipal Airport Manager Nick King provided the board with a news release from the Lake City Aviators to let the BOAC know they are going to be starting their first ground school class on Jan. 22. It will run through March 10, with classes from 6 to 8 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday at the airport terminal building.
The classes at the terminal are pending all the repairs to the building get completed in time, but King said there is a backup plan for the location.
“From what they are telling me, they’ve got five or six students already signed up for the class,” King said. “I believe the first class is going to be $200, but I don’t know if that price is just a first-time, trying to get people coming. We’ll learn that here moving forward, but they are very excited to get this class going. Their aircraft, I believe, is scheduled to be certified either this coming Monday or a week from Monday.”
BOAC President Jay Rigdon said, “Good for them. We want to do anything we can to help anybody like this be out there.”
According to the news release, “Ground school serves as a foundational component in the journey of aspiring aviators, providing essential theoretical knowledge and a comprehensive understanding of aviation principles. The Ground School program at Lake City Aviators will cover a diverse range of subjects essential for a successful aviation career, including aviation regulations, navigation, meteorology, aerodynamics and more. The curriculum has been meticulously designed by industry experts and experienced instructors to ensure that students receive a well-rounded education that aligns with industry standards.”
Lake City Aviators boasts a team of seasoned and certified flight instructors who bring a wealth of real-world experience to the classroom, the release states. The ground school program at Lake City Aviators “goes beyond traditional classroom instruction, incorporating practical, hands-on exercises to reinforce theoretical knowledge.”
Lake City Aviators, the release states, are dedicated to supporting students in their aviation career paths. The program includes optional career guidance sessions to help students navigate the industry successfully.
“Lake City Aviators invites individuals with a passion for aviation to embark on this exciting educational journey. The Ground School program marks a significant milestone for the flight school as it begins to empower the next generation of aviators,” the release states.
Interested individuals can contact Lake City Aviators at [email protected] for more details or to enroll in the upcoming Ground School session starting on Jan. 22.
