Bowen Center will celebrate the opening of a new facility in Columbia City this month.
The public will have several opportunities to experience the new building firsthand with public tours and a ribbon cutting.
Completion of the new facility marks a nearly $8 million investment in the health of all Whitley County residents by offering easy access to an expanded range of healthcare services, especially to those on Medicaid or with limited or no insurance. The services offered will include mental health care, primary health care, behavioral health care, addiction recovery treatment and life skills coaching, according to a news release from Bowen Center.
Bowen Center has outgrown its current downtown building, limiting the number of patients it can serve. In 2020, The Center began adding primary care to its locations but could not offer that care in Whitley County due to site limitations. The new location will include primary care services and was built with future expansion in mind. The convenient new location at the corner of Ind. 205 and U.S. 30 will allow patients easy access to parking and also hospital services across the street if needed.
Bowen Center’s move to integrated care is aimed at addressing the unique healthcare challenges underserved populations face, the release states.
“By improving access to income-based care and providing it in a setting where multidisciplinary teams work together, we are improving and extending the lives of our patients in Whitley County,” said Dr. Rob Ryan, Bowen Center president/CEO. “We know that people living in poverty, especially those with mental illness, have shorter life expectancies, and that has got to change. By offering high-quality healthcare to people no matter their ability to pay, we are changing lives.”
An open house will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and a ribbon-cutting will celebrate the first patient day on Jan. 22 at 10 a.m. with tours until 5 p.m. The public is invited to both events, featuring tours, refreshments and giveaways.
Bowen Health Clinic - Columbia City is located at 1259 E. Ind. 205, Columbia City.
