WINONA LAKE - Once a hairdresser, always a hairdresser, according to Jacque Bradley.
She would know. She’s been doing hair for 53 years.
Two to three days a week, she can be found doing hair at Bailey’s Studio, one of eight businesses now inside the Winona Live building at 25 Kings Hwy., Winona Lake. She serves men and women.
“Anybody who roams through the door,” she said in an interview Thursday after a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce.
She began doing hair right out of high school.
“And I still like it. I’m very much retirement age, but I like what I do and I like my customers. I work two to three days a week, by appointment only,” she stated.
Most of her customers come to her through word of mouth.
“When I get a new customer, somebody’s referred them and given them my phone number,” she said. “That’s how that usually happens.”
One woman just stopped in Thursday because she didn’t have a phone number for Bailey’s Studio. When somebody’s looking for you, Bradley said, they’ll find you.
“I do hair coloring, I do perms, I do waxing, face waxing. All of it. Except nails, no fingernails. We have a gal that does nails in the back, though,” she said. “Just me here in this room, and then Kirsten’s in the back and she does hair and nails. And then we have another gal in the middle ... and she does the artifical eyelashes and hair. So, there’s three of us. And Judy (Ness) works on somebody every now and then. It’s hard to get your hand out of it once you’re a hairdresser, you know? Once you’re a hairdresser, you’re always a hairdresser.”
