ST. JOSEPH COUNTY - A North Webster man is facing a half dozen charges, including resisting law enforcement, after a crash late Monday morning in Mishawaka.
According to an Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office crash news release, A 2004 Pontiac Grand Am, driven by Christopher James Solley-Mead, 43, of North Webster, was traveling west on Linconlway East, east of Capital Avenue (Ind. 331), in St. Joseph County.
A 2019 Ford F150, driven by Bonnie L. Affolder, 79, Fort Wayne, was stopped facing south on Capital Avenue, north of Lincolnway East.
At about 10:49 a.m. Monday, Solley-Mead was driving recklessly, according to the crash news release, and at a high rate of speed, fleeing from police. He attempted to turn north onto Capital Avenue from Lincolnway East, lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the front end of the Ford F150, causing a head-on collision. Solley-Mead then attempted to leave the scene of the crash and fled on foot, the release states. Solley-Mead was eventually placed into custody, checked out by paramedics and then taken to the Elkhart County Jail.
The release states Solley-Mead was incarcerated at the jail for resisting law enforcement, driving while suspended with a prior and reckless driving. Charges also are being requested through the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office for resisting law enforcement, leaving the scene of a crash and battery on law enforcement.
Affolder was checked out on the scene of the crash by Mishawaka paramedics and then taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries. She complained of neck pain.
Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The Pontiac Grand Am had extensive front-end damage, while the Ford F150 had heavy front-end damage, the report indicates.
