America’s Wars

Editor, Times-Union:
Do you ever wonder why America doesn’t win any wars or conflicts anymore? The military is no longer a fighting machine. We no longer fight to win, we have rules of engagement now.
The downfall of the military was twofold: One, when America dropped the atom bomb on Japan twice, America didn’t care about collateral damage, killing innocent women and children, giving the Japanese people all kinds of cancer. Did America care?
Second, right after World War II, the Korean conflict started, one of our greatest war heros, Gen. Douglas MacArthur (winner of the Medal of Honor), was fired by President Truman, signaling to the rest of the military if the president can fire a Medal of Honor winner, they can fire anyone. Remember Korea and the 38th parallel.
Did America win in Vietnam? Did our military men and women who returned from Vietnam get honored by the public? Both answers are the same, no.
Do you believe the military had a strategy after 9/11 (Iraq or Afghanistan)?
