PeekMed celebrated the opening of its Warsaw office with a ribbon-cutting with the Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce Thursday.
João Pedro Ribeiro, co-founder and CEO of PeekMed, said the company is “a platform that allows orthopedic surgeons to plan and simulate their surgeries before actually performing the surgery.”
By designing, developing and distributing up-to-date technology to support the medical profession, PeekMed aims to provide more predictable patient treatments, currently focusing on orthopedic surgery, according to PeekMed’s website.
“So it’s a 100% software base and it allows the surgeon to have a full understanding of the problem with the patient and how to address that problem,” he said.
Ribeiro said PeekMed usually works with hospitals, surgeons and implant manufacturers to provide a solution to their issues so they can use that toward a beneficial outcome.
Ribeiro said the company started addressing the American market and found it useful to have a base in the U.S.
“So that’s why we ended up selecting now as the time to start up the company and build up the company here, so we’re already operating in the field,” Ribeiro said.
He said it was about a year ago PeekMed thought it would make sense to have a footprint in the U.S. So at the end of last year, the company realized Warsaw was the right location “and now is the opening.”
“We ended up choosing Warsaw for a couple reasons. So, the first one really is Warsaw is still the worldwide capital of orthopedics, right. And there’s this intention of keeping this position on the digital side, not only on the manufacturing on metal and plastic, but also on the digital. And that’s pretty much us. And that’s why we ended up selecting Warsaw,” he said, adding another reason for selecting Warsaw was the community. “We felt very welcomed here in the community.”
Founded in 2015, the Warsaw location is PeekMed’s third location, with the other two being in Portugal and Germany. PeekMed currently has an office in the KEDCO (Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation) Downtown Business Studio, 207 S. Buffalo St.
Ribeiro said the goal for PeekMed is to bring the company’s expertise and culture to the Warsaw community. He said the idea is to hire more and more people on the sales, customer support and manufacturing side.
For those interested in obtaining PeekMed’s services, Ribeiro said they can go to the company’s website at www.peekmed.com and hospitals, surgeons and manufacturers will have access to General Manager Patrick Henry and the U.S. team.
Ribeiro said now that PeekMed has a U.S. location, the goal is to increase the team and the footprint, not only in the U.S., but elsewhere as well. The Warsaw location will cover the entire country, at least in the beginning.
Ribeiro said PeekMed plans to focus on the U.S. “as most likely the biggest orthopedic market in the world.” The company has some plans in the future to expand that, but now the focus is the U.S.
