Jewell Dean Hicks

Jewell Dean Hicks, of Warsaw, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2024, at the age of 84.
She was born on April 28, 1940, in Carbon Hill, Ala., to Lockie Aliene Enis Christian and James Allen Christian. Jewell has resided in Kosciusko County for the past 78 years where she was a 1957 graduate of Warsaw High School. That same year she married the love of her life, Thomas Ballard Hicks, on Oct. 25, 1957. They shared 67 years of marriage together before she passed away.
Jewell worked as a telephone operator and was also a supervisor in the telephone alarm center for United Telephone. Later she worked at United Credit Union prior to working as a realtor for Century 21. She was the trusting, kind, smiling face that assisted many people find a home. Jewell received several prestigious sales awards as a realtor and enjoyed her job very much.
She always kept busy and was a very creative person and spent many hours working on her art. Jewell enjoyed a cozy night-in watching old movies, especially anything Doris Day was in. When it came to music, well Elvis was number one in her heart, never tiring of listening to his classics. Jewell was a former member of Warsaw Wesleyan Church and over the years formed many friendships with her church family. She enjoyed quality time with her family and husband traveling and seeing God’s beauty wherever they went. More than anything she loved being a Mom, and later simply being grandma … her first love WAS family. Jewell was a sweet and loving lady who will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Thomas Hicks, Warsaw; two sons, Gary (Susan) Hicks, Warsaw; and Darrell (Cindy) Hicks, Warsaw. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Marilia (Jeffrey) Russell, Warsaw; Marissalyn (Dustin) Patrick, Warsaw; Dana (Greg) Staddon, Warsaw; seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Jimma (Mike) Masterson, Warsaw; Susie (Henry) Prater, Warsaw. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: John, Gregory and David; and four sisters: Billie Ann, Alma, Eva and Betty.
Friends and family are invited to visit prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw. Jewell’s life will be celebrated with a service at 1 p.m. at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home and officiated by Pastor Mark Wagoner. A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw.
