A Warsaw man was arrested after allegedly shooting a man Sunday.
Daniel Romero, 40, of 1861 N. Vicky Lane, Warsaw, is charged with burglary, a level 1 felony; burglary, a level 2 felony; battery causing serious bodily injury, a level 5 felony; and intimidation, a level 5 felony.
He was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 1:53 a.m. Sunday on a $50,250 preliminary bond.
According to the probable cause affidavit, on Sunday, Kosciusko County Dispatch advised the Warsaw Police Department of a shooting at a residence in Warsaw. A woman said her boyfriend was shot by Romero, who then left the scene in a red pickup truck.
WPD officers arrived on scene and learned the man was shot in the head.
The officers entered the residence and saw a damaged front door frame with a large wrench with duct tape on the floor. The officers saw the woman putting pressure on the man’s head with a blanket.
The woman said Romero broke into the residence and yelled, “Really, b***h?” Romero then shot the man and left.
An officer spoke with the man who said he was “just chilling” when Romero broke in and shot him.
The man was taken to Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital and eventually flown to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. Emergency medical services reported the man suffered a gunshot wound that grazed his head and went through his left shoulder.
The officer spoke with the woman who said she was relaxing on the couch with the man. She noticed a vehicle stopped in front of the residence. The woman told the man she thought Romero was outside. Before she could get to the door, the woman said Romero kicked the door in, which was dead bolted. Romero had a large wrench and argued with the woman. Romero dropped the wrench, pulled a firearm and pointed the firearm at the woman. Romero then pointed the firearm at the man and shot him, according to court documents.
Law enforcement officers in Kosciusko County canvased the area, checked addresses associated with Romero and were able to locate him. Romero was handcuffed and taken to the county jail.
Law enforcement also searched the truck and found a 9mm Taurus handgun with a nickel-plated cartridge, which was consistence with the evidence located at the scene of the shooting, according to court documents.
