Kermit L. Collins

Kermit L. Collins, 88, peacefully passed away in his home on Monday, Dec. 16, 2024.
Kermit was born on March 25, 1936, in Lancer, Ky., to Luther Clark and Fairy Bell Burchett Collins, and raised by his adopted father, William S. Collins. At the age of 15 years old, he went to live with his aunt and uncle in Potawatomie County, Kan.
He joined the U.S. Army in December of 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1957, at the rank of specialist 4th Class.
On June 21, 1958, in Wellston, Ohio, Kermit married Louise Stapleton. And the couple would make Warsaw home in 1965.
Kermit worked as a theatre projectionist, sales person in Moore’s Inc., for Western Southern Life Insurance Company, D J & Sales WKOV Radio Station in Wellston, Ohio, and for R.R. Donnelley for the last 32 years before his retirement in 1993.
The most important event in his life was being born again in Jesus Christ, his savior. He was very proud of his family and all his dear friends. He loved gospel music and occasionally played in church. Kermit was a Freemason, and liked county and easy listening music, loved fishing and playing golf.
He is survived by his sons, Shawn (Stephanie) Collins, of Warsaw; and Don Collins, of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren: Lillie (Eathan) Prater, of Nappanee; Hallie (Brandon) Edwards, of Mentone; and Ryan Castle, of Alamogordo, N.M.; and great-grandchildren: Dylan Prater, Lexie Prater and Gracie Doberstein.
Kermit was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; his parents, his sisters: Lora Frasier, Ann Reffitt and Willa Burchett.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Dec. 19 at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels, 2290 Provident Court. Funeral services will follow at noon with Pastor David Stackhouse officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military honors.
