NEW PARIS - A Warsaw teen and a Syracuse woman were injured in a two-vehicle accident Monday in New Paris.
According to an Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office crash news release, at about 12:25 p.m. Monday Brenna Yoder, 17, Warsaw, was driving a 2008 Honda CRV northbound on Ind. 15, just south of CR 50 in New Paris, behind a 2020 Nissan Armada, driven by Katie Lechlitner, 40, Syracuse. Lechlitner also was driving north on Ind. 15 and at the intersection with CR 50 slowed or stopped for southbound traffic, attempting to go west on CR 50.
Yoder was following too closely and the front of the CRV she was driving hit the rear end of Lechlitner’s Armada, the release states. The CRV sustained heavy front-end damage and the Armada sustained heavy rear-end damage.
Yoder suffered a right-leg fracture and facial injuries, the report states, and was taken to the Elkhart General Hospital by Jackson Township medics.
Leslie Darr, 66, Syracuse, suffered neck and back injuries and also was taken to Elkhart General Hospital by Jackson Township medics.
Yoder was cited for holding or using a telecommunications device while operating a motor vehicle and for following too closely.
Everyone in both vehicles were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
