Silver Lake Approves New Generator Purchase

SILVER LAKE – At Wednesday night's meeting, the Silver Lake Town Council voted to purchase a $9,800 generator for station two among quotes presented by Utilities Superintendent Joey McNeal.
At this end-of-year meeting, council also:
• Approved resolution 24-02-12 for appropriation transfers.
• Approved the 2025 county interlocal agreement for the police department's data service.
• Approved the 2025 salary ordinance with a 2-1 vote; Jean Weller opposed.
• Approved the final DLZ Engineering invoice for the Office of Community and Rural Affairs grant draw at $8,000.
• Approved John Conley's reappointment as fire chief for 2025.
• Reappointed Hugh Murfin as council president for 2025.
• Council signed a resolution 24-01-12 setting the 2025 water and sewer budgets: water $286,950; sewer $316,500.
• Town Marshal Jason McGlennen asked Council if he could begin seeking applications for the position vacated by Deputy Marshal Matthew Wynn. McGlennen will begin reviewing applications immediately.
In citizen's comments, council heard from a resident seeking to place a container home on Pleasant Street. Clerk-Treasurer Tonya Conley will send a letter to the county approving the structure so long as the owner installs skirting, similar to what is required for trailers in town.
There was a town docket of $153,995.64.
Murfin reminded the public of Santa Claus visiting town at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Conley said the fire truck with Santa will not go down Bouse Drive. Refreshments and visits with Santa will be available from 6:30–7:30 that evening.
Council will next meet at 7 p.m. Jan. 8.
