December 11, 2024 at 5:35 p.m.
Patricia R. “Pat” Brown, of Warsaw, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024, at Miller’s in Warsaw at the age of 87. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, a wonderful sister and a great friend.
Pat was born on April 8, 1937, in Plain City, Ohio, to Dorothea Dunfee Andrews and Tunys Andrews, the third of four daughters. Following graduation from Plain City High School in 1955, Pat went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, in 1959. She was one of the first female graduates of OU to pass the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam.
On Nov. 23, 1963, Pat married Donald “Don” Irvin Brown, who survives. They were blessed with two children and celebrated 61 years of marriage together before Pat’s passing.
After working as an auditor for Arthur Young for three years in Toledo, Ohio, Pat moved to Warsaw with Don in 1965 where she became an active member of the Presbyterian church and community, extensively volunteering her time in various capacities to Tri Kappa, the Salvation Army Auxiliary, school groups and other local organizations. In addition to raising her children and volunteering, Pat enjoyed competing at bridge, tennis and golf with her family and friends. She was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren, three sisters and many friends. For relaxation she also liked to play piano, sew and needlepoint.
When her children reached their teenage years, Pat ran for, and was elected, Kosciusko County auditor. With the support (and newly-developed cooking skills) of husband Don, Pat was proud to serve the county for two terms from 1987 to 1995. When Don retired from Dalton Corporation in 1998, the two began travelling. They thoroughly enjoyed their time together touring many stops across the seven continents.
Pat will be remembered for her warmth, intelligence, sense of humor, curiosity and friendly competitive spirit.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Donald I. Brown, Warsaw; daughter, Jennifer Brown and her fiancé Hank Kinne III, Denver, Colo.; and her son, Stephen (Terri) Brown, Zionsville. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Logan Brown, Halle Brown, Sophia Clayton and Briar Clayton; two sisters, Dormalee “Nick” Mayer, Plain City, Ohio; and Alice Duchesne, Pensacola, Fla.; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Mary Elizabeth Andrews Mitchell.
Patricia’s life will be celebrated with a service at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, and officiated by Envoy Ken Locke of the Salvation Army. Friends and family may visit prior to the service from 2 to 4 p.m. She will be laid to rest at a later date at Forest Grove Cemetery in Plain City, Ohio.
Pat’s family would like to express their deep gratitude for the care she received from the staff of Miller’s in Warsaw and her close friends who visited. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers can be directed to Salvation Army, 501 Arthur St., Warsaw, IN 46580; or to Indiana Parkinson Foundation, 14350 Mundy Drive, #800, Noblesville, IN 46060 and would be appreciated.
