WINONA LAKE - The Village at Winona announced that The Dr. Dane and Mary Louise Miller Foundation (the “Miller Foundation”) has created The Village at Winona Foundation (the “Village Foundation”), a nonprofit corporation.
The Village Foundation was formed for the exclusive purpose of preserving the Winona Lake Historic District, a registered national historic place known as The Village at Winona, as well as the Winona Lake Mountain Bike Trails, according to a provided news release. Both the Village and the bike trails are important and cherished assets of Kosciusko County, community, and the Miller Foundation’s establishment and funding of the Village Foundation will help ensure that these properties continue to provide use and enjoyment to the community for generations to come.
Mary Louise Miller, president and co-founder of the Miller and Village Foundations, said, “The Miller Foundation is pleased to be able to create and fund a vehicle that will preserve The Village at Winona and Winona Lake bike trails for generations to come. Together with my late husband, Dane, we have always taken great pride in our community and the creation of this new foundation will ensure the continuation of Dane’s vision well into the future.”
On the shores of Winona Lake sits The Village at Winona. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this former summer retreat is now a shopping destination, with unique retail and service shops and a variety of restaurants and eateries, the release states. The Village also stays true to its roots as a place for community gatherings, hosting numerous concerts, performances and festivals throughout the year.
The bike trails consist of nearly 10 miles of single track for cyclists to explore with levels of difficulty for all skill levels.
