PIERCETON - Several fire departments responded to a trailer fire early Monday morning at Regency Point trailer park.
Pierceton Fire Department received the initial call at 5:45 a.m. of the fire, which had been reported by a neighbor, according to Fire Chief Nathan Rhoades.
The trailer at 8280 E. U.S. 30, lot 35, was not occupied as the tenant had been evicted the prior week and was staying with a neighbor.
While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, Rhoades said they’re “leaning toward” a candle warmer the occupant said she had left plugged in at the trailer being too close to combustibles. Rhoades said they can’t confirm that at this time, but they’re leaning toward the candle warmer’s proximity to combustibles as the cause.

The trailer was a total loss. There was no damage to any surrounding trailers.
There were no injuries to firefighters or bystanders. Dogs were removed from the trailer a day before, Rhoades said.
Assisting Pierceton Fire Department were North Webster-Tippecanoe Township Fire Territory, Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory, Sidney, Winona Lake, Lutheran EMS, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Kosciusko County Central Dispatch and the American Red Cross.
Rhoades thanked all the agencies that assisted with the fire.
