Laura J. Gillis, 64, of Warsaw, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2024, at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and an aunt.
Laura was born on July 10, 1960, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Thomas and Barbara Gehling Ludwig. She was united in holy matrimony to Matthew Gillis and they welcomed two loving sons.
She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and worked as the business manager for the church. She was the smiling face that greeted every visitor and parishioner at Sacred Heart for 25 years. An advocate of the poor and less fortunate, she had a continuously flowing fountain of love and compassion. Laura loved gardening and cooking. Her heart was doing things for her family and those she loved.
Laura will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Matthew, of Warsaw; children, Luke (Kristen) Gillis, of Cromwell; and Sam (Jennifer Hathaway) Gillis, of Warsaw; brothers: Michael (Nancy) Ludwig, of Indianapolis; John Ludwig, of Warsaw; and Robert (Kristin) Ludwig, of St. John; and grandchildren, Carter Gillis and Cougar Beck. She was preceded in passing by both parents.
A Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 9 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Johnathan officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior from 10 a.m. until the start of Mass in the church.
