ETNA GREEN — Etna Green Town Council continued discussions Tuesday on work assistance for Town Superintendent Bryan Long.
In July, Richard McManis applied for a laborer position and was hired. He currently works part-time for the town of Etna Green at 30 hours per week.
Clerk-Treasurer Patti Cook said the council agreed in July to hire someone full-time to help Long. Council President Heath Roberts said he and former Councilman Jason Hanes discussed hiring someone part-time for three months.
Cook said the council's meeting minutes from July stated it would be a full-time position. Town attorney Nick Jacobs and Councilwoman Susan Klinefelter could not fully recall what was discussed. Council voted to continue having McManis stay as a part-time employee.
In other business, Klinefelter said she recently compiled a list of differences between the town's employee handbook and town ordinances. Cook said since the town's code, which contains all the ordinances, has been recently updated, the handbook needs to be as well.
Jacobs said he could look at what Klinefelter compiled prior to the council's September meeting. He told council he would determine which proposed changes would require a public hearing and which ones would not in order to expedite the process.
A citizen at the meeting also brought up the recent passing of Mary McNeal, a town resident and the store manager of the Family Express location in Etna Green. Events have been organized to benefit McNeal's 13-year-old daughter, Geneve.
A haystack supper will take place at the Etna Green Church of Christ from 4-7 p.m. Aug. 25. The Bourbon Street Pizza location in Mentone is also holding a fundraising event from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday. Twenty percent of net sales from that day will go toward the McNeal family. Vouchers for the Bourbon Street Pizza event must be presented and can be picked up at Hartzell Feed Mill.
Council also learned Etna Township Fire Department's next fish fry is from 4-7 p.m., or until sold out, on Saturday. It is drive-through only. ETFD is also holding a gun raffle after the fish fry concludes. Tickets for the raffle can be purchased during the fish fry.
The council's next meeting is at 7 p.m. Sept. 10 in Etna Green Town Hall.
