WINONA LAKE – Winona Lake Town Council is moving closer to making a decision on a director for the Miller Sunset Pavilion.
Councilwoman Ashley McGinnis said there were seven applicants for the director position. There were two people that applied for the ice rink operations position, with one of the two people applying for both the director-level position and the ice rink position. She said she didn’t know if that person wanted both positions or would be OK with just one.
All seven of the applicants will be interviewed Monday and the committee will have a recommendation for the council.
Councilman Barry Andrew asked if the whole committee was interviewing the candidates. McGinnis said the committee is coming up with a list of questions, so they can ask the candidates the same questions.
McGinnis suggested the council having a special meeting before the Sept. 3 work session to discuss the recommendation.
She also said the Miller Sunset Pavilion Committee also discussed the ice rink rates for the season and will have a recommendation for the council at a later meeting. The Miller Sunset Pavilion Committee is also discussing having a winter farmers market at the Senior Center, possibly twice a month.
The council also approved the appointments to the town’s budget committee. Councilmen Rick Swaim and Barry Andrew will be the two representatives from the council to be on the committee. Town Manager Craig Allebach and Clerk-Treasurer Heather James will also be on the committee, as well as any department heads as needed.
James also informed the council the public hearing for the 2025 budget is Sept. 17 and the budget adoption meeting is currently set for Oct. 22.
