BURKET – Burket Town Council discussed at its meeting Thursday some work done around town recently.
During July’s meeting, resident Tona Huff told the council there were some potholes on CR 700 by Burket Educational Center. After the meeting in July, Council President Bill Rayburn said some town officials went down to that area and there were two potholes on the side of the road. Fill was put into the holes.
Another complaint the council looked at was a speed limit sign on Center Street. In July, resident Marvin McClone said the sign isn’t as noticeable as it should be where it was. Superintendent Brad Bibler was asked to take a look and move the sign if he determined it needed to be moved.
Thursday, Rayburn said Bibler thought the sign should be moved. Bibler marked the area where he wants to move the sign to, but has not moved it yet.
Also, the council discussed weeds on Center Street, just west of School Street.
Councilwoman Lena Ball suggested the town could get those weeds sprayed. Rayburn said he’d ask Bibler to take a look at them.
Earlier in the meeting, Rayburn updated the council on three properties that were sent ordinance violation letters. One property still has a dumpster on the property, but nothing has been moved. Another property has cleaned up some, but still has some brush to clean up. The third property hasn’t done anything to clean up the property.
Rayburn said he’d like to give two of the properties a little bit more time, but had a letter to send out for one of those two.
Ball said she appreciates the property owners for starting to clean up, but thought the town needed to stay on them equally.
The council also:
• Heard there was a hornet’s nest at the town garage. Rayburn said an exterminator may be called.
• Heard the town is still waiting for the railroad tracks on Walnut Street to be repaired.
Rayburn said railroad representatives said Burket’s tracks would be fixed after Mentone’s were.
During Wednesday’s Mentone Town Council meeting, Councilman Tim Croy said Mentone’s tracks were currently being worked on and he was told the tracks in Mentone should be finished by the end of the week and possibly opened by Monday.
