Cedar Creek of Warsaw, 425 Chinworth Court, Warsaw, held its first school supplies drive this past week to help area families.
Marcie Fisher, executive director of Cedar Creek, put out a box for donations at the assisted living facility so friends and families could donate school supplies. Donation boxes also were placed at the Warsaw Community Public Library.
The Elks Lodge gave a lot of donations, and flyers were put out in the community.

Thursday was the last day Cedar Creek was collecting school supplies. They held a drive at the assisted living facility Friday where families could pick up school supplies. Lists of school supplies were put out so people knew what was needed.
A lot of the donations came from Cedar Creek residents or their families, she said.
“We had actually planned for people to come here for pick-up. But we didn’t get a whole lot of RSVPs for that,” so any school supplies that weren’t distributed Friday will be given to one or several WCS schools for students who need them, Fisher said. Cedar Creek will reach out to WCS to set something up.
Fisher said Cedar Creek was able to collect 10 backpacks and a couple hundred dollars worth of schools supplies. Cedar Creek also received $100 worth of donations, which will be taken over to Renekers LLC to help students get gym uniforms for school.
Fisher said this is the first year Cedar Creek has done a school supplies drive.
The reason they’re doing it is to make sure people know the assisted living facility was around. Also, the residents and staff are very hands-on in regards to giving back to the community, so the drive seemed like a good way to do that.
Cedar Creek also did the drive to help alleviate some of the burden families have when buying school supplies. Fisher said everything has gotten expensive, including school supplies, “so any burden we can take off anybody in the community” is a good thing.
