I have known Coroner Tyler Huffer for many years. Our connection started when he was a student at the high school and I was an administrator. I knew then by our many talks that Tyler was destined to be an important part of our community. His concern and caring attitude for our community was evident to me even when he was in his teens.
I encourage community members to vote for Tyler Huffer to ensure that he continue as our coroner. To be our coroner Tyler can continue to make essential changes and improvements in the coroner’s office. Improvements already in place include establishing policies and procedures, having county email addresses, digitizing the cases, and easing access to the coroner’s reports by authorized law enforcement personnel.
Other improvements overseen by Coroner Huffer include the office’s public outreach as one way to humanize the office, creation of the first suicide overdose fatality response team, and refining the budget. Another huge plus was one of his first decisions as coroner. In January of 2023 he named Paul Schmitt as one of his deputies. Paul’s long positive and respected history in law enforcement was an excellent addition to the office.
I also encourage our community to make sure to vote at the primary no later than Tuesday, May 7. We are fortunate to have Tyler Huffer as the best candidate for Coroner of Kosciusko County.
