The Kosciusko County Solid Waste Management District's board heard an update on the depot's amnesty period for collecting recyclable items during Tuesday’s meeting.
Kosciusko County's recycling depot started free days on April 1, with all items accepted at the depot being taken free of charge for county residents until June 28.
KCSWMD Executive Director Tom Ganser said the depot has already doubled its number of customers seen in April versus in March.
"Some of that, we are getting into spring, but absolutely it's getting around that the amnesty period's here," said Ganser.
Ganser said the depot has collected a lot of paint items, with 1,421 pounds being given away in the reuse room in March. He predicted even more would be recycled and reused in April.
In other business, Ganser also asked the board to consider the replacement of the depot's south receiving door as a budget item for 2025. He said the steel frame door is old and asked for recommendations on local businesses to seek quotes from.
The board's next meeting is at 11 a.m. May 6.
