Pierceton Council Holds Discussion With Youth League Leaders As Season’s Start Approaches

PIERCETON — Pierceton Town Council members had a discussion with Pierceton Youth League's leaders during an informational meeting on Monday.
Councilman Eric Trump read over a list of items from Whitko Jr.-Sr. High School Athletic Director Barry Singrey, who was unable to attend the meeting. PYL and South Whitley Youth League are both partnering with Whitko Community Schools, with the school district paying for equipment and background checks on league coaches.
Singrey will also be the deciding factor between the two youth leagues.
For funds, registration monies for participating in the youth leagues will not go to Whitko Schools.
During a March meeting, the council also approved waiving PYL's rental fee for using Pierceton-Washington Township Park for 2024 and the indefinite future.
PYL representatives said they have all the coaches they need for the season and are looking at partnering with area churches for running the concession stand during games. The league hopes to have extra funds left over at the end of the season to give to the town's park board for maintenance purposes.
PYL's first game will be May 7.
Pierceton Council's next regular meeting is at 6:30 p.m. May 13. The council will also have a redevelopment commission meeting at 6:30 p.m. May 9.
