Chip Shots

Editor, Times-Union:
The definition of a chip shot is, “a short and easy field goal in football.” Sad that Chip Davenport missed that field goal!
I was extremely disappointed to see that the Warsaw Times-Union allowed Mr. Davenport to use the Sports page as his platform to showcase his political position, dare I say, his political ignorance as well. His column this past Saturday (March 30), “Chip Shots: Competitors Who Lose Vs. Losers,” was an amateur hit piece on former President Trump. Apparently, this is a slow time of year for sports (anybody heard of the NCAA basketball tournament(s), or maybe Grace College men and women competing in their national championship tournaments?!?), so Chip decided to dedicate over 1,200 words on why he believes Trump is a loser. Even more sad, was that the Times-Union decided to print it! People read the sports page to read about sports, not someone’s political opinion!
I’m not going to take up 1,200 words to debate you, Chip. My advice, to you, is “stay in your lane!” You are not a political analyst and your opinion doesn’t belong in the press. Rather, I would ask the Times-Union to either not publish future ramblings, or put it where it belongs, in the OpEd section. Or, I’ll find it necessary to end my over 37-year relationship with the paper.
Oh, and just for fun see if you can find the four typos in your piece of work, Chip. Good luck!
