Geneal Heagy Mellott, 86, peacefully passed away on Wednesday evening, April 3, 2024, at Grace Village Retirement in Winona Lake.
Geneal was born in Marshall County on Jan. 8, 1938, to Merl and Lucile Yockey Sponseller. She attended Bourbon High School and graduated with the class of 1955.
On Sept. 26, 1955, in Warsaw, Geneal married Richard C. “Dick” Heagy. The two would welcome three children. In their younger years, the family attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Warsaw. Geneal did a lot of bookkeeping for many businesses in the local area and she was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Dick would pass away in 2003.
She would marry Larry Mellott on June 20, 2008, and they would share almost eight years together before his passing in 2016.
Geneal would make Grace Village Retirement home in 2021 and attended church at Grace Village Chapel, alongside her sister who is also a resident there. She was often found in the Art Room, reenjoying pastime hobbies.
Geneal is survived by her children, Nanette (Les) Pierce and Hal (Geri) Heagy, both of Warsaw; her sister, Kay Lozier, of Winona Lake; six grandchildren: Jorie Yarber, Jared Brumfield, Mallery Pierce, Austin Pierce, Whitney Olson and Sarah Allison; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jalaine Brumfield; her parents; and her former spouses, Richard and Larry.
Private burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, next to Richard.
