An alcohol permit for a second Aldi location in Warsaw was among the permits approved by the Alcohol Tobacco Commission of Kosciusko County Thursday.
Attorney Clark Kirkman, representing Aldi (Indiana) L.P., said Aldi is a grocery store chain. The application would be for a second location in Warsaw.
Kirkman said his client has “their sights set on a location, but have not inked anything yet.”
He did not have information where the second location could be, but said the permit was good for anywhere in the incorporated area of Warsaw. The second location hopes to be open within 24 months, he said.
Excise Officer April Tackett said once Aldi gets a location, they will need to come back in front of the commission.
The second application approved Thursday was for Botana Locas, 803 E. Winona Ave., Warsaw.
Owner Michelle Jaimes said Botana Locas sells Mexican food like burritos and quesadillas, as well as snacks like milk shakes, smoothies and ice cream.
Tackett said for the floor plan with the application, there is no bar room. There will be no service across a counter for alcohol. Any alcohol will be taken to the table by an employee.
Jaimes said the restaurant has not served alcohol before, but she knows the rules behind it. There are two employees who are 16 years old, with the rest of the employees being over 21. The two teens work in the afternoon and were instructed they are not allowed to get close to the bar area and they cannot serve alcohol.
The last new application approved Thursday was for 502 Mixology LLC, 502 N. First St., Pierceton.
Kirkman, also representing 502 Mixology LLC, said 502 Mixology LLC is an old Methodist church that is being converted to a wedding venue. They are obtaining a special catering hall permit.
Their focus is special events like weddings with 15 weddings already booked. The venue is still putting the finishing touches on the buildout, so the permit will be put into escrow after it’s obtained, he said.
They are still working on their alcohol policy, such as whether they will card everyone, but the venue hopes to have that in place by the time they open. 502’s first event is scheduled for July 14.
The commission also approved renewals, without violations, for:
• La Troje LLC, dba La Troje, 115 S. Buffalo St., Warsaw, beer, wine and liquor restaurant
• Tai Xing Inc., dba Sushiko, 937 N. Detroit St., Warsaw, beer, wine and liquor restaurant.
• Wilby’s Inc., dba Wilby’s Gas & Goodies, 307 W. Main St., Mentone, beer and wine dealer grocery store.
