Warsaw’s Abbey Peterson Qualifies For Golf State Finals

The IHSAA girls golf regional was held Friday morning at Noble Hawk golf course, with six local athletes participating. When the dust settled, only one advanced to the state finals in Carmel next weekend. Warsaw’s Abbey Peterson shot a 73 on the day, placing her in the top three individuals without a team and punching her ticket to state.
Warsaw, the lone area team to advance out of sectionals last week, finished in sixth place with a team score of 340, missing the cut by 21 strokes. The three teams advancing to state out of the East Noble regional are Homestead, which took first place with a 290, Carroll (313) and Northridge (319).
Peterson’s 73 gave her a second place finish among players from non-advancing teams, two strokes behind Culver Academy’s Lynne Zhang, who narrowly edged out Peterson after seven playoff holes last week for medalist honors at the Stonehenge sectional. The thrd individual to advance was Zhang’s teammate Karilyn Teglia (75).
Warsaw’s Olivia Robinson-Gay just missed out on joining her teammate at state, finishing her day with a 78, just outside the top three. Rounding out the scoring for Warsaw was Lilly Henderson with a 94, Abigail Davis with a 95 and Claire Reust with a 96.
Also competing at the regional was Triton’s Chloe McKinney, who advanced as a top three finisher without a team last week at the sectional. The lone Lady Trojan to advance finished her morning with a 106.
Friday’s medalist was Homestead’s Scarelett Senk with a 68.
