SOUTH BEND - The Michiana Area Council of Governments (MACOG) has prepared the Michiana on the Move: 2050 Transportation Plan, which is a federally required vision for transportation projects in the next 20-25 years.
This plan was developed over the past year with input from local governments, key stakeholders and the public. The draft plan is available online by visiting move.macog.com and open for public comments until Oct. 9. A public open house will be held in MACOG’s office in Downtown South Bend on Sept. 21 from 3 to 5 p.m. The draft plan will be presented for approval by the MACOG Policy Board on Oct. 11 at 10 a.m. in the Mishawaka City Hall, according to a news release from MACOG.
The 2050 Transportation Plan serves as a long-range transportation plan and identifies current conditions of the regional transportation network, assesses future travel needs and establish priorities that informs policies and transportation projects. The plan covers the MACOG region, which consists of Elkhart, Kosciusko, Marshall and St. Joseph counties in Indiana. Going through the planning process creates a guide for future investments and growth for our transportation system.
“The Transportation Plan allows us to look ahead and imagine how our region might change,” said MACOG Executive Director James Turnwald. “When looking ahead 20 to 25 years, the plan needs to be realistic to current trends, but flexible enough to adapt with regional needs.”
Copies of the plan are available at MACOG’s office, area libraries and at move.macog.com for public review. Public comments will be accepted by email at [email protected], mailed to MACOG, or faxed to 574-239-4072 until Oct. 9.
As part of the its public participation process, MACOG will offer an open house from 3 to 5 p.m. (EDT) on Sept. 21 in the MACOG Conference Room, 227 W. Jefferson Blvd., 11th floor County-City Building, South Bend. Request for information or comments may be directed to 574-287-1829 or [email protected].
