Stolen Check Leads To Safeguards For Pierceton Council

PIERCETON — The Pierceton Town Council OK'd implementing electronic fund transfers and fraud prevention measures after a check was stolen in the mail.
During a special meeting on Monday, at the Pierceton Community Building, the Pierceton Town Council approved allowing electronic fund transfers of town money and OK'd other measures, including upgrading the town's banking to a professional account and adding automated clearing house payments to the town's checking account.
The fraud prevention measures will cost the town an additional $90 per month.
The town recently learned a payment mailed out for $5,500 was stolen and cashed. The town is waiting on a refund from the bank which cashed it.
