WINONA LAKE – Winona Lake’s Trick-or-Treat on the Trail saw doubling of its participation in its second year Saturday.
Winona Lake Park Department Director Holly Hummitch said the event got started because last year, she wanted to do something that was community involved.
“We have normal trick-or-treating, but I wanted to involve the greenway and the trail system and this idea just came to me,” she said.
From 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, boys and girls were able to go along the greenway, picking up treats along the way.
From 5 to 7 p.m., Hummitch said at Limitless Park, YMCA sponsored games. Also, Duane Herendeen, Warsaw Community Public Library children's librarians technical assistant, was doing story telling. People were able to make s’mores and when it got dark, “The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” was shown.
She said it’s something fun for the community.
Last year, Hummitch said there were between 1,000 and 1,500 people that attended the event. On Saturday, she said this year’s event has doubled, if not more.
“It’s been amazing,” she said.
