Save The Tree

Thank you for The Weekender front-page story on Gita Kamdar’s effort to save the 275-year-old sycamore on the corner of Sheridan and Colfax streets. My wife and I pass this tree often on our frequent walks and almost always comment on its beauty. The tree is magnificent, mighty, majestic. If the estimate of its age is correct, this sycamore predates our country’s founding.
It is hard to imagine that a quarter millennium from now the future citizens of Warsaw will mount an effort to preserve a 250-year-old sidewalk that was poured way back in 2023. But it is not hard to image those same citizens seeking to save a, by then, 525-year-old tree that might still exist if we have the foresight to save it now.
Please keep us updated on this issue. An ADA compliant sidewalk is important. So, too, is protecting one of this community’s treasured assets.
