SIDNEY — Sidney is hoping to obtain a part-time police presence in town in the future.
The Sidney Town Council had its 2024 budget hearing on Sunday, Oct. 22.
Included in its proposed budget is $5,000 for public safety matters, of which a portion will hopefully pay for a part-time officer.
Overall, its planned budget for 2024 is $96,800, which breaks down to: $60,000 in the general fund; $4,000 in the local road and street fund; $8,000 in the motor vehicle highway fund; $4,800 in the cumulative capital improvement fund from cigarette tax; and $20,000 in the fund from economic development income tax.
No one from the public spoke at Sunday's hearing. The council plans to adopt its budget at a meeting starting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1 at the Sidney fire station.
