South Bend Riley at Wawasee

Wawasee was on the right end of one of the biggest upsets across the state on Friday night, as the Warriors defeated a 8-1 South Bend Riley team 35-26 in the first round of 4A Sectional 18. Wawasee is now 2-8 this season and will advance to the sectional semifinal round.
Hunter Tinkey was tremendous once again in this one, scoring 55, 48 and 35-yard touchdowns. Dallas Miller and Bradyn Pike also found the end zone on touchdown passes from Mason Shoemaker. The Warrior defense showed up in the game’s biggest moments, turning away Riley on fourth and goal twice.
Wawasee will travel to Northridge Friday night for its semifinal game.
Manchester at Whitko
Manchester won its second game this season against Whitko Friday night, defeating the Wildcats 49-19 in the first round of 2A Sectional 35. The Squires will head into the semifinals with a 4-6 record while Whitko wraps up the season with a 1-9 record.
Reiss Gaerte had a career day in this one, rushing for 311 yards on 31 carries while reaching the end zone five different times. Gaerte also had two tackles for loss on defense. Quarterback Logan Eastgate threw for 27 yards, including an 18-yard touchdown to Colten Nelson while also running for 68 yards and a score.
The Wildcats were led by 86 rushing yards and two touchdowns by Landon Smith. Crew Ebbinghouse threw for 86 yards and a touchdown to Riley Harman, who finished with 78 receiving yards.
The Squires will host Central Noble in the semifinal round Friday night.
Triton at North Newton
Triton looked downright unstoppable in its 1A Sectional 41 opening game against North Newton Friday night, cruising to a 71-6 win. Triton heads into the semifinal round with a 7-3 record.
The Trojans led the game 58-0 at halftime. Cole Shively passed for 219 yards and five touchdowns, four of them to Javan May, who caught five balls for 84 yards and the four scores. Dante Workman added 90 yards and two scores. Ryder Gayheart ran for 85 yards and a score. Shively added another touchdown with his legs.
The Trojans will stay on the road for its semifinal contest, as Triton will play at Culver Community on Friday.
