BOURBON – Vance Stills, 77, of Tippecanoe, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2023, at home in the care of his family.
Vance was born to Thomas and Maryellen Huston Stills on Dec. 8, 1945, in Greeneville, Tenn., and moved to Cleveland, Ohio, to better the life of his family. Vance married Mae Ruth Edmiston on Feb. 14, 1966. She preceded him in death on June 24, 2018. He retired as a restaurant owner and entrepreneur where he owned numerous restaurants in Marshall and Kosciusko counties. The restaurants included: Etna Green Café, Cozy Cottage, Riverbend Café (Maezees), Bourbon Family Restaurant, Big Western of Pierceton, and VR Restaurant in Inwood. His wife worked alongside him as his partner in business. Vance enjoyed his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was known for his humor and generosity. He also loved going back to the coffee shop to hang out with his friends and learn the community gossip.
Vance will be missed by his daughter, Kelly Smith, of Tippecanoe; sons, Tommy (Ashley) Stills, of Etna Green; and Jeffrey (Devra) Stills, of Tippecanoe; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Hensley, of Greenville, Tenn.; numerous nieces and nephews, including Duke Gregg, of Greenville, Tenn.
Vance was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; son-in-law, Terry Smith; sisters: Lois Ayers, Thelma Gregg, Eudema Franklin, Carrie Humpheries, Flossy Tweed and Alberta Riddle; his niece, Shirley Gregg; and his brothers: Ralph, John, Arnold, Billy, Clifford and Joe.
The visitation will be on Thursday, Oct. 19 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon.
A funeral service will follow on Friday, Oct. 20 at 10:30 a.m. at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon, with Pastor Larrie Kreft and Pastor Bob Brown officiating. Burial will take place in Tippecanoe Cemetery, Tippecanoe.
