BOURBON – Maggie Smiley, 86, of Mentone, passed away on Friday, Oct. 13, 2023, at The Waters Nursing Home of Fort Wayne.  
Maggie was born to Ezra and Polly Combs Hicks on March 7, 1937, in Hindman, Ky. She retired from Wildman Uniform of Warsaw. Maggie enjoyed gardening, her flowers, working puzzles, family and her grandchildren. She had a “sweet tooth” and was a very loving, giving and compassionate person.
Maggie will be missed by her daughters, Donita Everage, of Millcreek, Ky.; and Lavada (Frank) Valdez, of Mentone; her sons: Dana (Sue) Gibbs, of Fort Wayne; Howell (Sendy) Gibbs, of Fort Wayne; Rodney (Anna) Gibbs, of Fort Wayne; Michael (Danielle) Gibbs, of Monroeville; and Gregg (Cindy) Gibbs, of Fort Wayne; 23 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; her brothers, Curt (Leota) Hicks, of Carrie, Ky.; and Curlis Hicks, of Fort Wayne.
Maggie is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters: Evetta, Emaline, Irene, Mabel, Verna and Vada; and brothers: Chester, Carter, Eldon, James and Elijah.
The celebration of life will be on Wednesday, Oct. 18 from noon to 2 p.m. at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main Street, Bourbon.
A memorial service will follow on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon, with Pastor Dale Hicks officiating.
