MENTONE — Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy Shaun Mudd attended his first Tippecanoe Valley School Board meeting Monday as the corporation’s new school resource officer.
The board asked him to share a bit about himself.
Mudd noted he’d lived in the Mentone area since 2007.
“It’s been a good week,” he said of serving as SRO thus far. “I’m glad I can assist and get to know the kids.”
Mudd joins his colleague Rick Shepherd as a Valley SRO.
The board also adopted the 2024 budget. It’s $26,369,783, up from $26,118,125 for 2023.
The budget breaks down to: $13,970,336 in the education fund; $3,517,000 in the debt service fund; and $8,882,447 in the operations fund.
In other business, the board:
• Approved the hiring of Tippecanoe Valley Middle School instructional assistant Joy Daggett; Tippecanoe Valley High School cook Maylia Wolf; and Akron Elementary School instructional assistant Sherlyn Ortiz.
• Approved Nathan Shewman as TVHS head wrestling coach and Scott Whetstone as TVHS varsity swim coach.
• Accepted the resignations of Mentone instructional assistant Amanda Richards; Akron instructional assistant Jerzey Conley and nurse LeAnna Bell; and Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. Network Administrator Jason Goldsmith.
• Accepted a $75 apple donation from Creation Celebration for TVMS special education teacher Cathy Olson’s class to practice cooking.
• Heard a fundraiser to benefit Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana is all day Wednesday at Salvatori’s in Warsaw. If people mention they wish to donate to the organization, the restaurant will give 15% of food sales to JANI. The organization helps students, including those at TVSC, with developing job skills.
• Heard a fundraiser for the high school is on Oct. 24, at the Warsaw Hacienda. People must mention during regular business hours they wish to donate to TVHS.
The board’s next regular meeting is 6 p.m. Nov. 20 at Mentone.
