Warsaw Man Arrested After Trying To Flee Police By UTV And Swimming

A Warsaw man was arrested after fleeing law enforcement on a UTV and then trying to swim away from police Sunday night.
According to Warsaw Police Department Public Information Officer Capt. Brad Kellar, officers attempted to stop a yellow UTV in the Meijer area for operating the vehicle on public roadways and without headlights. The UTV fled from there and traveled south on Detroit Street. The UTV drove adjacent to Center Lake in the area of Instrumedical Technologies (Instru-Med), and the suspect - later identified as Sheldon Lawrence, 31, 3806 N. CR 700E, jumped into the lake as he continued to flee.
Lawrence quickly changed his mind and returned to shore where he was taken into custody, according to Kellar.
He was arrested for fleeing law enforcement, criminal recklessness and reckless driving. His preliminary bond was listed as $5,250.
