The Party’s Over

Editor, Times-Union:
I believe the time has come to let go — for now — of party identification when election day comes in November 2024. Instead the time has come to vote on stand-alone issues which will define our country for many years to come. Our country is terribly divided by ideologies the control of which will determine if America remains a democratic republic of, for, and by the people or an autocratic “kingdom” ruled by power-hungry, self-appointed despots.
The issues are clear and the importance of voters’ decisions next year cannot be overstated. Now is the time to pay attention to the words and deeds — not just the political affiliations — of all the candidates. Will you vote for candidates with plans of vision — or goals of division? Constitutional freedom — or Constitutional suspension? Uniting all Americans — or ostracizing certain groups of Americans? Securing American freedoms — or overturning the freedoms they don’t like? Listening to the will of the majority — or catering to the whims of intolerant radicals?
Will you vote for candidates who insist on forcing their own individual beliefs of superiority as guidelines for everyone — or will you vote for candidates who promote tolerance, acceptance, individuality, and diversity? Will you choose leaders who ignore and refute science (while at the same time insisting our youth are not being taught enough science in school) ..... leaders who decide what you are allowed to read, what healthcare you may seek, what history you are smart enough to know, what religion must guide your country, what groups of people you should not consider worthy of respect and human rights? Will you accept leaders who accept and promote violence as the preferred remedy for grievances and disputes? Or will you choose candidates who, as Andy Beshear says, “run for something and not against someone?”
It is long past time for us voters to think for ourselves and to finally realize that there are politicians and other public figures who have hidden agendas for taking control of our country just to benefit themselves — not us and not the nation as a whole. Their plans began long ago by instilling fear, skepticism, and intolerance of anyone different, casting blame toward anyone and everyone perceived to be the cause of others’ misfortunes, and eventually infusing hatred toward all of the aforementioned. Having accomplished these goals, these wannabe “leaders” now present themselves as victims themselves and as saviors who will seek “retribution” for your pain and suffering and, with your perceived vengeful votes, will lead you to the land of “righteousness.” “Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!”
Be smart. Be informed. Don’t be conned. Don’t vote blue or red or right or left. Vote for the person — not the party. There really is only one party working for you anyway. The other party is not. In fact, that other party is not “working” at all. That party’s over.
(I am sure the “usual suspects” will refute my words and spin my intent. However, the informed silent majority will surely “get it” and act accordingly.)
