Grace To Host NAIA Opening Rounds This Week

WINONA LAKE - For the second consecutive season, Grace College’s men’s soccer team has been chosen as a host site for the NAIA First and Second Rounds.
The Lancers (14-4-2) were chosen as the No. 3 overall seed in the tournament and will earn an automatic bye into the second round of the tournament. Grace was one of eight sites chosen to host two tournament games.
The NAIA First Round match is scheduled for this Thursday at 6 p.m. Grace will play the winner in the NAIA Second Round on Saturday at 3 p.m.
The first round matchup will feature the Briar Cliff Chargers and the Governors State Jaguars and will be hosted at 1st Source Bank Field on Thursday at 6 p.m.
The Chargers boast a 13-2-3 record and were the regular season champions in Great Plains Athletic Conference.
The Jaguars play in the Chicago Collegiate Athletic Conference and finished the season with an 8-9-1 record. Governors State will be making their second trip to Winona Lake this season, having previously played the Lancers during the regular season.
This is Grace’s fifth all-time appearance in the NAIA National Championships. The Lancers are hosting an NAIA tournament match for the second time in team history. Grace has made the NAIA tournament three times in five years under head coach Arron Patrick.
Grace finished second in the Crossroads League this season and has been ranked top 10 in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll since Sept. 13.
