Danny Conkling, age 72, of North Webster, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Nov. 4, 2023.
He was born on May 30, 1951, in Muncie, to Gail and Lois Garber Conkling.
After graduating from Wawasee High School in 1969, he pursued his studies at Anderson College, focusing on music. Through education, Danny nurtured his love for music and developed skills that would resonate throughout his life.
Danny began his career working at Conkling Farms before eventually retiring from the Kosciusko County Highway Department in 2019. He served as a township board member for Tippecanoe Township for many years. Danny served his community by volunteering as a firefighter. In recognition of his unwavering service and devotion, he received a prestigious 50-year pin from the Indiana Volunteers Firefighter Association as a proud member of the North Webster Tippecanoe Township Fire Territory. Additionally, Danny was an active member of the North Webster EMS, dedicating his time and expertise to helping those in need.
Aside from his professional accomplishments, Danny enjoyed the open road on his motorcycles. Riding both Harleys and Honda motorcycles allowed him to experience freedom in its purest form and embrace the thrill of adventure.
An ardent fan of the Indiana University (IU) Hoosiers, he took immense pride in cheering for his favorite team. Among the sports legends who captured Danny's heart was legendary basketball coach Bobby Knight.
Danny sought camaraderie and friendly competition at Gilliam Lanes, where he enjoyed bowling with friends and family. Danny was a talented musician who shared his passion for music with others. He even had the privilege of playing his trumpet for Queen Elizabeth during one of his several trips to Europe.
He married his beloved wife, Rebecca Krause, on the iconic Dixie Boat in North Webster on June 12, 1993. Their union was a testament to their enduring love and provided cherished memories that would forever be treasured.
Danny also proudly served as a member and for several years as an officer of the Sons of the American Legion Post 253 in North Webster. He was also a charter member of the Post 253 Riders motorcycle club. His dedication to honoring and supporting veterans was unwavering, reflecting his deep respect and gratitude towards those who served their country.
Danny is survived by his sons: Chris (Alicia) Conkling, of Anderson; Jamie (Beverly) Conkling, of Decatur; and Erik (Anna) Conkling, of North Webster. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Christian, Gracie, Ari, Reagan, Hudson, Jensen, Megan, Alex and Nathan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca, who passed in June of 2019; and his parents, Gail and Lois Conkling.
Family and friends may gather for visitation at Titus Funeral Home of North Webster, 8056 E. CR 500N, North Webster, on Nov. 9 from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A Life Celebration® will be held on Nov. 10 starting at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior in the funeral home.
