Optimist Car Show Brings Out Over 150 Vehicles To Downtown Warsaw Sunday

With the sun shining and temperatures in the 70s, hundreds of people came to downtown Warsaw Sunday to check out more than 150 cars, trucks and motorcycles in the Warsaw Breakfast Optimist City of Lakes Car Show.

Brent Mock, chair for the event, said this was the 13th year for the car show. As of shortly before 3 p.m., there were 152 vehicles registered, with registration going until 3 p.m. Awards were presented at 4:30 p.m.

He said the only thing different for this year’s car show compared to last year’s was “great weather.”

While there were many vehicles from Kosciusko County, they also came from other parts of the state like Argos, Fort Wayne and New Haven, but also out of state like Michigan.

“We had a pretty good turnout this year,” Mock said. “A little bit better than last year. A couple years ago, we had our all-time high, which I think was 230. Last year we had about 130, so this year we had 152.”

The Optimist Club does the car show every year as one of their fundraisers.

“We give back to the youth throughout Kosciusko County to various organizations,” Mock said. “We have, I think, four fundraisers and this is one of the higher fundraisers.”

Planning for next year’s car show will begin at the end of this year. Mock said he thinks the Optimist car show is the first car show of the year for Warsaw, if not for the county. Mentone’s Egg Festival Car Show is June 2.

Angie Tom praised Mock’s leadership in organizing this year’s Optimist car show.

“We are so grateful for Brent Mock for doing such an efficient and effective job running the show for us,” she said.

Mock said if anyone is ever interested in joining or supporting the Optimists, they can come out to their meetings on Wednesdays at 7 a.m. at Creighton’s Crazy Egg.
