Local High School Sports Recaps For 5/18

Warsaw at Mishawaka
Warsaw avenged a loss to Mishawaka earlier this month with a 5-0 road victory on Wednesday night. The Tigers are now 15-10-1 this season, 9-5 in the Northern Lakes Conference.
Cohen Heady continued his hot streak, hitting a triple and driving in two runs for Warsaw. Logan O’Malley hit a double and scored two runs. Kyle Showley was fantastic on the mound, allowing only four hits and no runs in seven innings of work while striking out five.
The Tigers are at home Saturday morning for the final time this season against Lake Central.
Wawasee at Concord
Wawasee was unable to make it two wins in a row Wednesday night, falling 5-4 to Concord on the road. The Warriors are now 4-19 this spring, 1-13 in the Northern Lakes Conference.
Wawasee is back at home against Churubusco Friday night.
Manchester at Tippecanoe Valley
Tippecanoe Valley made it two wins in a row Wednesday evening with a 6-0 victory over Manchester. The Vikings are now 10-9 this season, 7-2 in the Three Rivers Conference while the Squires drop to 9-13, 4-5 in the TRC.
Noah Prater went 2-3 with two runs scored and two driven in for Valley. Evan Myers also had two RBIs for the Vikings. Annakin Pettit went 2-3 with two doubles. Markus Bernicky struck out five in five innings of work. For Manchester, Evan Estep had two hits while Reiss Gaerte and Ethan Hendrix each had one.
Tippy Valley hosts Winamac Monday evening while Manchester faces off with Fort Wayne Wayne on the road Tuesday.
Whitko vs. Wabash
Whitko dropped its second game in a row Wednesday night, falling 4-1 to Wabash at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne. The Wildcats are now 15-6 this season, 5-4 in the Three Rivers Conference.
Breyden Kirkdorffer had two hits and the lone Whitko run driven in. David Ousley, Jaxson Harper and Isaiah Cripe also added base hits for the team. Riley Harman struck out three in seven innings of work.
Whitko will look to get back in the win column Saturday on the road against Prairie Heights.
Softball
Concord at Wawasee
Wawasee dropped its third straight game Wednesday night, falling 6-3 at home to Concord. The Warriors are now 12-12 this spring, 5-9 in the Northern Lakes Conference.
Brooke Catron had a double and an RBI, while also adding a run scored. Evelyn Duncan and Haylee Allen also got base hits. Allen struck out six on the mound, giving up four earned runs. Wawasee is back in action Friday evening at home against Bremen.
Manchester at Tippecanoe Valley
Tippecanoe Valley earned a conference win over Manchester Wednesday evening, winning 9-0. The Lady Vikings are now 15-6 this season, 8-1 in the Three Rivers Conference, while the Lady Squires fall to 5-19, 3-6 in the TRC.
Madi Smith and Anna Shock each drove in two runs on two hits for Tippy Valley, with Smith hitting a home run and scoring twice. Brittany Benn had two hits and two runs scored. Dalynne Bussard gave up just two hits in seven innings, striking out 12. For Manchester, Paxton Baker and Hadley West each had a hit. Molly Schannep struck out two on the mound.
Valley plays at Warsaw Friday evening while the Lady Squires face off with Whitko Monday to begin softball sectionals.
Whitko at Wabash
Whitko dropped its final Three Rivers Conference game of the season to Wabash Wednesday evening, falling 11-1 in six innings. The Lady ‘Cats are now 2-14 this season, 1-7 in the TRC.
Addie Garr struck out 12 on the mound for Whitko, and was also one of three Lady ‘Cats to record a hit, joining Kaitlyn Cripe and Cassidy Skinner.
Whitko plays its final regular season games Saturday at Norwell in a doubleheader.
Tennis
Tippecanoe Valley vs. Whitko
Tippecanoe Valley and Whitko met at Warsaw High School Wednesday afternoon to play an opening round game of the girls tennis sectional tournament. Whitko emerged victorious, winning the match 3-2.
Whitko’s Abbi Frank defeated Valley’s Karegan Callahan 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles match. The Lady Vikings won the other two singles matches, with Lydia Miller and Talia Holder picking up wins. The Lady ‘Cats won both doubles matches to take the match and advance to the semifinals, with Jillian Culp and Bailey Wolfe picking up a 7-7 (7-5), 6-3 victory.
