Warsaw turned in some impressive individual performances, nonetheless.
Joey Rastrelli earned two blue ribbons in the 800- and 1,600-meter runs (2:18.26, and 4:58.47, respectively), and added another first place running the anchor leg of the 1,600-meter relay.
The smooth-running junior finished her race before the second-place finisher was anywhere near the straightaway in a dominating 26-second victory margin.
Ali Barkey, Madison Smalley, and Mikayla Mimnaugh joined Rastrelli to record a winning time of 4:05.14.
Camryn Burner’s double win in the 100-meter (12.29 sec.), and 200-meter dashes (25.91 sec.) rounded out Warsaw’s five first places for the evening enroute to 129 team points for the team title.
Emma Yoder, who set the Northern lakes Conference (NLC) record in the discus throw, exceeded 143-feet again (143-03 specifically) to capture Wawasee’s lone blue ribbon Tuesday night.
Concord, with strong sprints (first place in the 400-meter relay) and wins in the shot put and pole vault, finished second (89.5) followed closely by Northridge (82.5, 3 firsts), Elkhart (77, 2 firsts) and NorthWood (75, 1 first).
Wawasee finished sixth in team scoring with 46 points. Brooklyn Gibson (second place, shot put, 37-06.75), and Kaydence Shepherd (third place, long jump, 16-06.5) will join several Lady Tigers in regional competition at Goshen Tuesday.
Lady Tigers finishing second included Barkey (400m dash, 1:01.49) who swapped finish-order with last week’s NLC runner-up Kristina Petkova from Goshen (58.81 sec.). Petkova’s win was the only first place finish not captured by the top six teams in the meet.
Freshman Sami Rastrelli (3200m run, 11:57), and Anna Bazzoni (pole vault, 10-03) rounded out runner-up finishes for Warsaw.
The younger Rastrelli earned an additional regional berth finishing third as one of the legs in the 3,200-meter relay with help from Tatum Bergan, Ella Laput, and Mimnaugh (10:01.44).
Freshman Eden Metz will live to fight another day in two races: the 1,600-meter run (5:27.98) and the 3,200-meter run (12:08.82) where she added third-place finishes for Warsaw.
Anna Parker (300m hurdles, 49.62 sec.), Kaitlynn McKibbin (high jump, 5-00), and Elliana Transparenti (pole vault, 10-00) joined Metz with third place finishes to qualify for the Goshen regional meet.
Parker (fourth place, 100m hurdles) will wait for a phone call if there are regional scratches, or if the regional field does not carry 16 participants. Wawasee’s Gibson (fourth place, shot put) will keep her mobile ringer on, too.
Warsaw’s McKibbin and Mimnaugh are the only seniors moving onto regional competition, testimony to the talent returning next season, yet getting valuable postseason competition experience.
